Frequently asked questions
-
We recommend running the enhance backup role on a standalone backup server for enhanced performance and disaster recovery reasons. Ideally this server will be housed in another data centre.
-
Backups are de-duplicated using file system hard links meaning that only the files that have been changed since the last backup need to be copied. This drastically reduces the amount of space required for your backups.
For example 30 daily snapshots for a 1GB website would consume around 2GB of backup storage.
-
Yes, you can run an unlimited number of standalone or shared backup servers with a cluster. Each website will backup to the assigned backup server - by default a website is backed up to the server with the least load. This setting can be overriden manually or with automatic placement abiding to 'least website' or 'random'.
